Setting out to enable the most marginalised and vulnerable people in our society, to live more meaningful lives
I’m Dr Karen Sankey, a GP who, after decades in medicine, reached a breaking point, not because I lacked skill or care, but because I saw the system failing both patients and clinicians. Too many people came to me with stress, burnout, addiction or chronic pain, only to get labels and prescriptions but no real solution. We need more than quick fixes. We need places where people can heal and connect, in genuine community. That’s why I started Community Wellness. As much as 90% of all human illness - mental and physical - has its origins in exposure to unprocessed chronic and/or overwhelming stress. If a plant is not thriving we don't blame the plant. We consider its environments, the conditions and what the plant needs. At Community Wellness, we help people understand the unmet human need and offer creative, social, and nature-based therapeutic environments to support their healing. 91% of participants report improved wellbeing after attending. Our approach is rooted in the science of trauma, neuroscience, and Human Givens psychology. We began with the most marginalised, but now people from all walks of life - even GPs, counsellors, and coaches, are asking to be trained and supported as part of this movement.
