Snitch is a social media accountability app that helps Gen Z tackle phone addiction through shared screen-time limits and group dynamics, using social pressure and playful mechanics to give people their time back.
Snitch is the first accountability-based screen time app that helps friends cut down phone use together. The average 21-year-old will spend 30 years staring at screens, 7 of those on social media alone. Doomscrolling is the new junk food, and the consequences are real: mental health, sleep, and relationships stolen by a billion-dollar attention economy. Current solutions treat this as a willpower problem with fluffy apps and simple gamification. They just don't work against platforms designed to keep you hooked. Snitch treats phone addiction like any other addiction: with accountability. Instead of a solo screen time limit, users share a combined timer across their most addictive apps. If your friend uses 40 minutes of your shared hour, you only have 20 left. Suddenly you're intrinsically motivated to change, because it's not just your time you're wasting. Decades of research prove peer support is one of the most powerful behaviour change tools we have, and alongside Imperial researchers, we're embedding that science directly into the app. Eight weeks post-launch: 10,000 users, zero paid marketing, a viral coefficient of 2.87, and 41.1% 60-day retention - double our closest competitors'. The biggest win? Our users save an average of 3 hours daily. With this time Snitch encourages them to get out and live more, offering rewards and discounts on local experiences. We're committed to building a community, not just an app. We're three Imperial Design Engineering graduates who built a solution to a problem we lived ourselves. Now it’s our privilege to share it with you.
